You can actively look for employment while staying in Canada as a visitor. As you are physically in Canada already, you can attend in-person job interviews, which makes your employment search much more efficient.
You may even create your own employment opportunity by investing in Canadian business, opening a company and becoming an employee of a newly established business.
This measure applies to visitors who are currently in Canada, have a valid status as a visitor and have received a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. The employer must obtain a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) before the visitor can apply for a work permit, unless potential employment is in the LMIA exempt category. The work permit will be valid for the same duration as the job offer, up to a maximum of three years at a time.
This measure provides several benefits for visitors in Canada, including the ability to:
-
Stay in Canada while they apply for a work permit, reducing the time and expense of travel and visa application fees
-
Continue to build their connections and networks in Canada, which can increase their chances of finding long-term employment opportunities
-
Gain valuable work experience in Canada, which can enhance their skills and qualifications for future employment opportunities
-
Potentially apply for permanent residence in Canada, depending on their eligibility and circumstances
It is important to note that this measure is only available to visitors who meet the eligibility criteria and have received a valid job offer from a Canadian employer with a positive LMIA or within an LMIA exempt category.
